In many parts of Te Moananui Oceania, there is a need for empowerment and equality across various sectors. Indigenous communities, women, youth, people without land tenure, and marginalised groups often face socio-economic disparities, limited access to education and healthcare, and inadequate representation in decision-making processes. Empowering these communities and promoting gender equality are critical for achieving regeneration, resilience, and social cohesion in the region. Many NbS can contribute to increased empowerment and equality if their design, implementation, and monitoring include a focus on celebration of Indigenous knowledges, participation, education, capacity building, economic empowerment, and inclusive governance. The following nature-based solutions may be useful to enhance empowerment and equality.
