Increased wildfire

Climate change has contributed to an increased frequency and intensity of wildfires in Te Moananui Oceania, posing significant threats to ecosystems, human communities, and biodiversity across the region. Additionally, wildfires can release large amounts of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, exacerbating climate change and contributing to further warming. The following nature-based solutions may be useful to reduce the risk of or damage caused by wildfires.
